Zion's Twilight
I visited Zion National Park with my wife and a friend, talented photographer Steve Howa. It was late winter (March) and we wanted to visit Zion prior to the spring and summer crowds. This particular morning was brisk with a slight breeze, yet we took the time to make the hike under darkness to this overlook of Zion Canyon. And we were even treated to the setting moon! The view was spectacular! Not long after the sun crested behind us, casting warm light on the canyon walls, yet for some reason this pre-sunrise shot is what grabs my attention with its richer color and more even lighting.
The original composition is a six-shot (single exposures) taken with the Nikon D800 and 14-24mm lens combination, stitched in Photoshop. The original shot exceeds 114.5 megapixels with incredible detail! My son even told me you would be able to see him if he was standing on the road below --- He is correct!
