Surreal Salt
Spring sunset in one of Utah's wonders, the Bonneville Salt Flats. Each winter the valley floor is snowed upon, but due to the high salt content the snow quickly melts into a salt water lake. As spring progresses, the water evaporates and the salt crystallizes into amazing textures.
The Bonneville Salt Flats is managed by the BLM and is the location of multiple land speed records and popular films such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Independence Day. Due to salt extraction the salt-covered area is estimated to be one-third its original size [source: Wikipedia].
